Embassy Suites by Hilton, Downtown Orlando
11:30 am Reception / 12:00 pm Luncheon

What is the Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Award Luncheon? The Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Award Luncheon is the annual fundraising event that supports thousands of at-risk youth in Scouting in Central Florida. Established in 1978, the Whitney M. Young, Jr. Service Award is named in honor of the late Civil Rights Leader and Urban League Executive Director, Whitney M. Young, Jr. The award recognizes outstanding service by an adult or an organization for demonstrated involvement in the development and implementation of Scouting opportunities for culturally and economically diverse youth. Our 2017 recipients will be announced soon.

Who’s going to be at the WMY?  In 2016, more than 250 business, civic and political leaders attended. The campaign is led and organized by a team of esteemed & motivated volunteers. Lyndon Carter from Lowndes, Drosdick, Doster, Kantor & Reed, P.A. and Marcus Cowans from McCoy Federal Credit Union will serve as Co-Chairs for this event and will lead a team of more than 30-community leaders that will identify and recruit corporate sponsors, campaign volunteers, dinner attendees and donors.

How much does it cost to attend the WMY? There is no ticket cost to attend. All attendees will be asked to consider a pledge during the event. The pledge form will request an amount based on their history of giving to the Boy Scouts. If they have no history, they will be asked to consider a minimum pledge of $300, which supports 2 Scouts annually. Pledges can be paid at once, monthly or quarterly.

What’s the fundraising goal for the WMY? The goal is to raise $65,000 for youth across Central Florida Council’s seven counties: Brevard, Flagler, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia.

What does the fundraising accomplish?  Scouting serves more than 24,000 families throughout Central Florida, including 6,800 registered volunteers. 2,500 youth are part of our Scout-Reach program. This program serves as a highly successful example of Scouting’s commitment to teaching young people to become service leaders in their community while addressing important societal issues. Through service and participation, Scouts can earn their uniform, handbook and the opportunity to participate in many campouts and activities. Financially challenged families across Central Florida can apply annually for camperships to summer camp and Cub Day Camp. This Luncheon provides a needed service in our communities served that would not be possible without your support.

Sponsorship and registration information coming soon…
