National Jamboree 2010
By henry.knowles @ 8:36 AM :: 160 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: Council News

he seven Troop two hundred and eighty member contingent left Orlando on Saturday, July 24, 2010.  The contingent spent Sunday at the National Whitewater Center in Charlotte North Carolina and cleaned out Ryan's and Golden Corral in the evening. The contingent arrived at Ft. AP Hill on Monday, July 26, 2010. The Scouts spent the day doing activities such as Mountain Boarding, Rock Climbing, Fishing, Scuba, Kayaking, Sailing, Shotgun and Archery. The Scouts could go to Merit Badge Midway and earn almost all the Merit Badges the BSA offers such as Geocaching, Railroading, and Robotics. One of the most popular activities at the Jamboree is patch trading and the Council's Guitar Legends sound patches were one of the Hottest sets with the youth. The closing show was highlighted by the fireworks, the band Switchfoot, and Eagle Scout Mike Rowe .The Council was also represented by over 150 volunteers that paid $800.00 to serve on staff and work hard in the heat for all the Scouts. The thirty member Adult leadership team should be commended for having our Scouts prepared and for the time they dedicated for our youth. There has been discussion already for the 2013 Jamboree at The Summit in West Virginia and will pick a contingent leader in the fall. A big Thank You goes to Suddath Relocation systems and Mears Transportation for getting the contingent to the Jamboree and back while giving the council a significant discount.
